Dewi Jones Unit
Welcome to Dewi Jones Unit at Alder Hey. These pages provide more information about the Unit for children, families and professionals.
The Dewi Jones Unit (DJU) is a children’s mental health unit based at Alder Park, Park Road, Waterloo, Liverpool, L22 3XE. It is a specialist residential unit and one of only a small number in the country. We take referrals of children up to their 14th birthday.
Children and young people are referred to the unit by Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and other senior professionals, in local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Children and families referred to the unit will usually be experiencing serious emotional difficulties requiring specialist assessment and/or treatment
Children come to us for all sorts of different reasons these can include:
- Having problems with thoughts and feelings, which have made it hard to cope with everyday life.
- Problems with behaviour, which have made it difficult to be with other children and adults.
- Problems with looking after themselves, including not eating and drinking properly, getting into danger and not keeping safe, and not keeping their bodies healthy.
- Problems with living together as a family.
- Having problems with their learning, which have made it a struggle to manage in school.
Once a child or young person has been referred to us we will arrange to meet with you so we can find out more about what sort of help you are looking for.
