Ear, nose and throat (ENT)

The Department of Paediatric Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (Ear, Nose & Throat) at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is a secondary referral centre for children with common ENT conditions who require adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy and grommet insertion as well as a tertiary referral centre for children with complicated ear, nose and throat problems or complex medical histories.

The department has four full time paediatric Ear, Nose & Throat Consultants, three Consultants who visit from neighbouring Adult hospitals, three Specialist registrars, a specialist nurse and a foundation doctor. Outpatients are seen in the M1 outpatient clinic while inpatients are managed on L2 Ward and K1 day ward.

The Ear, Nose & Throat Department has expertise in paediatric airway endoscopy and laryngeal reconstruction, bone anchored hearing aids, complex ear pathology, paediatric head and neck pathology, correction of choanal atresia, Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis and other congenital abnormalities. The Department also works closely with the Regional Cleft Lip & Palate Unit, the supra-regional Craniofacial Unit and the Long term Ventilation Unit .
