| We have just found out that Phred one of the MacMillan nurses on Oncology has sadly passed away. Phred was one of the first people we met on Oncology over 6 years ago and she provided fantastic support to our whole family. Although she was not our allocated Mac nurse she was always happy to help in any way she could. She will be missed very much by us and everyone who knew her. A true angel. |

| I have only just found this page but I would love to say a big big big thank you to Mr May and Joan and everyone else that helped with my daughter who had a ten hour op in 2006 on the 10th October. Without that op my daughter Michaela would be brain dead not but she is leading a normal life. She will need another one in three years time but I know I have a hospital that cares and thats thanks to Alder Hey. So thank you for everything you have done. |

Our daughter Anna Christine Hyland had a major op at 3 days old at Alder Hey. She was in the Intensive Care Unit for 2 weeks and then she went to the High Dependancy Unit where she was then transferred to our local hospital. Had it not been for the great work and experience of the staff and Professor Losty she wouldn't be here. Anna was born with a diapragmatic hernia. |

| We have only just heard the devastating news about Phred. She will leave a gap in many lives that no-one will fill. A real angel! She was such a rock of support for our family in our time of darkness. We wish to send our deepest sympathies to the Macmillan team and the Oncology team and all those affected by her unexpected loss. |

| I was an aunty to baby William Woolrich he was born with jaundice and it never cleared up after extensive tests by staff at Alder Hey he was diagnosed with liver disease I can't spell what it is but sounds like billy-atresa he really did suffer and the staff on the high dependency unit looked after him making his stay more comfortable. The disease is awful and painful. He was due to fly to Harefield hospital by air ambulance for a liver transplant on the Saturday morning but sadly he passed away on the Friday night aged 4 and half months old at Alder Hey. This was heart breaking but the staff at Alder Hey were there to offer support. We would not have coped without them, this was over 22 years ago but I have only just saw this page and would like to say thank you very much for your dedication and support. You really helped his mum(Netty)Jeanette Jenkins and his dad (Billy)William Woolrich get through their sad days and for that we are eternally grateful and will never forget what you done for him. Thank you so much, sometimes you don't get the recognition you all deserve, you all have to put up with alot yet you all cope thank you xx |

I know I couldn't wait to get home because 10 days seemed like a long time, but if I didn't need to have an operation I would come again! I met new friends who were in for similar things and I, my mum and dad would just like to thank all of you for everything. |

I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff on HDU, ICU, Neonatal and Jez and his team for the amazing job they do.
We arrived at the hospital on the evening of August 6 scared and confused after our one day old son Oliver was transferred from the Birmingham area with TOF. The professionalism and genuine care of all staff made a traumatic period that little bit easier for ourselves and all of Oliver's family.
Oliver is now 12 weeks old and doing very well, but we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Alder Hey because without the excellence of its staff he wouldn't be here.
Thank you again |

Mr Mallucci and Mr Buxton, who saved his life (our heroes),Dr Howells, Dr Wright, Maggie and Raj, the fantastic endochrine team (especially Chris), all of the super cool, calm seniors on the Neurosurgery ward, the lovely, friendly nurses (Sue, Claire Mc, Tiny, Lindsay, Hayley, Kelly to name but a few) and the staff of Ronald McDonald house for making it all a bit more bearable. Thanks as well to Pat for making Max's 2nd birthday a special one, also the kind HCAs and Steve (theatre), too many people to mention individually but your kindness and your caring natures will never be forgotten. | On the 26th of october last year, my son Harvey was transfered from the Isle of Man to the Intensive Care Unit, he was only 3 weeks old. It was the worst time in me, and all Harvey's families lives and having to be so far away from home wasnt easy either. The love and care they gave my son to control his conditions (tuberous sclerosis and uncontrolable epilepsy) was amazing as the team at our local hospital just couldnt give out little baby the special care he needed. After a stay on ICU and in the Neuro Medical unit, 5 weeks later we got to take out little baby boy home. Since then he has been diagnosed with 2 more condiditons (west syndrome & wolff-parkinson-white syndrome) while attending apointments with his neurologist (Dr Curran) and with his care and expertise Harvey is doing extremely well. Thankyou to all the doctors and nurses who looked after my precious boy. |

I am the grandmother (Nanna) of an eleven year old little girl named Layla Pitt.
Layla was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of the 06/08/2008 having collapsed whilst on holiday in Wales with what transpired to be a fatal aneurism. Our precious girl died later that day in arms of her Mummy and Daddy, surrounded by the rest of her family.
I cannot begin to tell anyone how completely devastated we all are as Layla was treasured by us all. My daughter (Layla's Mummy), and her husband (Layla's Daddy), are completely heartbroken.
However amongst our grief and sadness we have been privileged to receive the most amazing support and kindness from the hospital staff.
From the moment Layla arrived at the hospital the care and attention that she received from every single member of staff was truly wonderful. The kindness and support that was, and continues to be given to my daughter, her husband and ourselves is faultless.
I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all those at the hospital who have done everything in their power to help us cope with our tragic loss.
The staff without exception, are unique in their compassion, and are very very special.
In the fullness of time I will ensure that I convey my thanks to all of you personally. But in the meantime, please accept my deep, deep thanks for all that you have done, and never underestimate the help that you provide to both the families of patients that recover, and to the families of those who do not. |

A special thanks to the staff on ICU, also Erica, Rebecca, Magella, Lisa, Nia and the rest of the girls on K2. As I sit here watching my lively and somewhat mischievious 14monthold son I can't help but think back to the first few weeks of his life when things really couldn't have been so different. He was born with a congenital heart defect and was whisked away from our local hospital in Bangor, North Wales to Alder Hey at just two days old to have what was to be life-saving surgery by the wonderful Mr Alfonso and Mr Pozzi. To this day I cannot thank them enough for their care of my son Jac and it's thanks to them that I have my wonderful son here with me today. The staff on PICU, HDU and K2 are all fantastic and I'd like to thank each and every one of them.
Thankyou all again, Ceri |

Hi all! I would like to express my deepest thanks and gratitude to all you wonderful people at Alderhey for simply giving me the gift of life. I have never been able to personally thank the Doctor(s) that saved my life all those years ago in the 60s. But I am eternally grateful also to my G.P. at the time, Dr Gammon, for his responsible decision to rush me to Alderhey (with only hours to spare)for the life-saving operation at only 16 days of age. I was apparently born with the rare condition of a strangulated hernia which caused all manner of internal complications which your skilful medical team had to sort out with time very much against them. The ensuing operation meant that it could go either way-Life or death! Lucky for me it went the positive way and I'm now alive to tell the tale. As a reminder of just how close I was to the brink of death, for many years my mother had a christening certificate issued by the hospital chaplain, which regrettably was lost or mislaid. The name printed on it was David Thompson (A name one of the chaplaincy nurses had called me in the event of things not going to plan. The Christian name being the choice of the nurses and the surname from my mother's maiden name. My father and her were not married at the time and so it was the name she was registered under). I owe my life to all you Alderhey miracle workers, and I will forever be proud to represent your name to everyone in my worldwide travels as a professional singer/musician. What a team of exceptionally dedicated and talented people you are. God Bless You All! JimmyX. |
