Dr Byrne is a member of Allergy societies including the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI), European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI). She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Faculty of Paediatrics (RCPI).
Additional information
Dr Aideen Byrne has recently taken up post as a Consultant Paediatric Allergist at Alder Hey. She received her primary medical degree from University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland. She trained in paediatrics at the Children’s University Hospital, and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Dublin and then spent three years as an Allergy and Immunology Fellow at National Jewish Health, a world renowned allergy centre in Denver, Colorado in conjunction with the University of Colorado (UCHSC). She carried out her doctorate research both in UCD and UCHSC defining new inflammatory mediators in atopic dermatitis and the role of apoptotic cells in controlling inflammation.
Clinical Interests
Dr Byrnes clinical interests include all aspects of childhood allergic disease particularly food allergy, drug allergy, venom allergy and allergic rhinitis.
Dr Byrne has developed an Allergic Rhinitis Clinic with Mr Ravi Sharma, Consultant ENT Surgeon and a clinic for young children with multiple food allergies in conjunction with the department of Dietetics and Nutrition. She is also setting up an immunotherapy service at Alder Hey. She does monthly outreach clinics at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.
The North West Allergy and Immunology Network.
Dr Byrne is currently a member of the Paediatric Allergy Implementation Group for the North West Allergy and Immunology Network. The North West Paediatric Allergy network is a pioneering collaboration of practicing allergy clinicians who aim is to provide excellent, evidence based care for allergic children in the region, which is efficient, holistic and accessible- provided as close to home as is possible.
