Actor Ricky Tomlinson has opened a new Dermatology Unit at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Alder Hey’s Dermatology Unit treats approximately 6000 patients a year for a variety of skin conditions. The new purpose built area, dedicated to treating dermatology conditions will enhance the patient’s experience, while enabling patients to be treated much quicker.
At the opening, Ricky unveiled a special picture designed by Rebecca Richardson, one of the unit’s patients. The 12 year old said: "I really like the new Unit. There are more things to play with, it's decorated really well and is child friendly."
Fintan Magee said: "I enjoyed meeting Ricky a lot. I liked telling him jokes and think he will use a few."

Ricky said: "It was fantastic to come down and open the new Unit. It's great that the children have a dedicated, child friendly area where they can be treated and which will help them to feel more comfortable. I am always telling people about the Dermatology Unit at Alder Hey because treatment of skin conditions is so important for children."
Louise Shepherd, Chief Executive of Alder Hey said: “On behalf of the Trust I would like to thank Ricky Tomlinson for his support in opening this brilliant new unit. Thanks must also go to the amazing fundraising efforts of staff within the department who have helped make this possible.”
