Jockeys Show Support for Alder Hey

 April 2011

Jockey's taking part in this year's John Smith’s Grand National meeting have made their annual visit to Alder Hey’s Oncology Unit today and met some of the patients and parents who benefit from their fantastic support. The visit is led by Imagine Patrons, Champion jockey, AP McCoy and Mick Fitzgerald, who has now retired from National Hunt racing.

Champion Jockey AP McCoy said: “This will be the tenth year we’ve undertaken a visit to Alder Hey before racing on Friday and each time I never fail to be moved by the bravery of these children and their families. It really puts things into perspective and the lads always make an effort to attend”

The jockeys also took part in a singing challenge to raise money for the Appeal after racing on Thursday, which has been supported by John Smiths and Tote.

The hospital’s Imagine Appeal charity has been named as the official charity partner for the three day meeting for the sixth year in succession.
