Over 300 people showed their support for Alder Hey by joining in the fun at this year’s Annual Members’ Day!
The event kicked off at 11am with children and their families enjoying a variety of activities including face painting, interactive games, arts and crafts, a treasure hunt, magician, nail painting from Woodlands Spa and arm plastering. Many of the younger visitors also brought along their teddy bears to be treated at Alder Hey’s special ‘Well Teddy’ Clinic. There was also delicious refreshments available from Paul Sydall (PS Meats) who generously contributed free food for the day.

There was plenty for the adults too as seven behind-the-scenes tours took place around the hospital and included a closer look at Ronald McDonald House, the Gait Lab facility, The Alder Centre and Alder Hey's brand new physiotherapy facilities.
Alongside the family fun, there was a formal presentation in which Sir David Henshaw (Chair) and Louise Shepherd (Chief Executive) discussed the highlights from last year. Sue Lorimer (Director of Finance) presented the Trust’s Annual Accounts for 2010/11 before the Report of the Council of Governors was presented by Professor Murray Dalziel, Lead Governor. There was also a special presentation by Professor Michael Beresford, Professor in Child Health, who spoke passionately about the great work Alder Hey is doing in treating Childhood Lupus.

Former Chair, Angela Jones OBE, DL was honoured at the meeting with a new role as Alder Hey’s Honorary Past Chair. Angela stepped down as Chair in November 2010, bringing to an end a decade of inspirational guidance and leadership. Angela’s new role will allow her to continue to work alongside Alder Hey as an ambassador as the hospital moves forward into its new Children’s Health Park.
The day was a roaring success. Kizzy, age 11, said “I’ll come again and again and again and again!” while Michelle said “Brilliant day, lots of fun!” Joshua and Dan agreed they’d had a fun filled day with both saying “I have had a really good day!” and George King said “Today was AWESOME!”
It was a fantastic day and Alder Hey is already counting down the days to the next Annual Members Meeting in 2012!
