Champion jockey AP McCoy will add another feather to his cap on Liverpool Day over the John Smith’s Grand National. Having ridden over 3,000 winners, winning the 2010 Grand National and being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year AP along with his fellow jockeys has decided to take part in a unique celebrity music challenge to raise money for Alder Hey Imagine Appeal at Aintree race course during the John Smith’s Grand National meeting.
Jockeys can choose their preference to sing, play guitar or drums and the overall winner will be decided electronically. Jockeys can choose from The Beatles Rock Band or Singstar Legends on the Playstation 3 format.
AP said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m not saying I’m a natural singer but I’ll certainly be practising at home before the racing starts at Aintree! The Alder Hey Imagine Appeal is a great charity to be involved with and I hope we can raise lots of money for the children in hospital.”
AP, who is a Patron of Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, has chosen John Lennon’s legendary song IMAGINE in tribute to the charity.
Emma Owen Marketing and PR Manager at Aintree Racecourse added: “We’re very proud of our long standing history with Alder Hey Imagine Appeal; it’s a cause that’s close to all our hearts. We think the Beatles challenge will be absolutely hilarious and we’re gearing up the jockeys to take part! What could be more fitting on Liverpool Day!”
